Former congressman Anthony Weiner was met with a shower of boos when he accused "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert of helping Donald Trump rise to the top of the Republican race for president Monday night.
Weiner, the husband of Hillary Clinton's close aide Huma Abedin, first talked about Clinton's loss to Barack Obama in the 2008 Democratic primary.
"I cried when Hillary Clinton lost to Barack Obama," he said. "I was like that last Chinese guy in front of the tank. I was the last person to endorse Obama.
"But now you've seen eight years of remarkable growth … to hear Donald Trump talk, you'd think you live in a lousy country."
Weiner then accused Colbert of being part of the "mainstream media."
"It's because of you in the mainstream media that give him so much oxygen," Weiner said, pointing a finger at the host to accent his point.
The audience booed the former congressman from New York, while Colbert took it in stride.
"Really? I'm mainstream media? Thank you, I'll take that as a compliment," Colbert said. "I made it! I'm mainstream!"
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after he was enveloped in a
sexting scandal with several women.
