Dr. Anthony Fauci praised the work doctors are doing to treat President Donald Trump for his COVID-19 infection.
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was on CNN Monday morning and discussed Trump being at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
"My colleagues that I know, including [White House physician] Sean Conley, are very good physicians, and they're very qualified, so I am really confident that the President of the United States is getting the optimal care that you can get with the team over at Walter Reed," Fauci said.
Fauci is a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force and has repeatedly urged Americans, including the president and other politicians, to use caution during the pandemic to slow the spread of the virus.
Fauci admitted that he's not involved in treating Trump's illness and said it would be inappropriate for him to comment specifically on that.
"I think it's obvious, John, that I have not been involved," Fauci said. "I don't want to get into talking about the president's case because that's not something that I've really been cleared to talk about, but personally I have not been involved in the direct care of the president."
