Ripping political partisanship, gun control activists, and anti-gun media agendas as "the problem," the father of a Parkland, Florida, school shooting victim made an impassioned plea Sunday "to stay focused" and work on "school safety first" because gun control right now is "not achievable."
"After every shooting, the media, they focus on gun control," Andrew Pollack, father of shooting victim Meadow Pollack, told CBS's "Face the Nation"
"Gun control, that's a big problem. I feel that if we all come together, as parents, grandparents, uncles, let's work on 'let's make our schools safe.'"
Pollack, who has met with President Donald Trump in the White House and Gov. Rick Scott, R-Fla., is pleading for activists and the media to stop the unwinnable gun control battles to first make our schools safe, starting with getting Scott's bill passed this week.
"I want Florida to set an example for the rest of the country," Pollack told CBS host Margaret Brennan.
Pollack, boldly, turned to the CBS camera Sunday to state his case for school safety first before gun control laws.
"Stay focused – I am talking to you, everyone out there," Pollack said. "Let's get the right message across. Let's make these schools safe.
". . . That's the problem again. They're focusing on something that's not achievable. Gun laws right now are not achievable. My daughter was murdered by a gun. She should have been safe in a school. That's the problem.
"There's 200 shootings. It's always getting twisted into gun laws, gun control. If we all focus together, one nation, no political affiliation, we could work together and make the schools safe."
Pollack praised President Trump for listening to him at the White House.
"There's not much anyone’s going to say that's going to make anything better for me, but he listened to things and suggestions that I had and what we’re working on in Florida," he said.
While denouncing marches, protests, and gun control activists, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students, Pollack emphasized, but warned them from being distracted into the gun control debate over school safety.
"I understand the kids' pain," Pollack said. "My kid was murdered in that school. So, if anyone understands it, I understand it, every kid in that school, how angry they are. But I am here now to talk to them and say let's focus on one thing first: Let's get our schools safe.
"And then, after every school's safe in the country – you can drop your kid off and not have to worry about some murderer is going to kill your kid on the third floor – they can focus on any gun laws they want."
Pollack has started a website RememberMeadow.com to build a memorial playground for his daughter.
