The University of Pennsylvania has tapped NBC News veteran Andrea Mitchell to give the commencement speech at its 2018 graduation ceremony.

It's a homecoming for Mitchell — NBC's chief foreign affairs correspondent — who graduated from Penn's College for Women with a degree in English in 1967. Her time as a journalist for NBC since 1978 has spanned seven presidents.

"We are honored to bestow our highest degree on award-winning journalist Andrea Mitchell, one of Penn's own, and have her address our graduates at Penn's 262nd Commencement," Penn President Amy Gutmann said in a statement.

"Andrea's reputation for integrity and fairness covering politics and foreign policy has earned her the status as one of America's most respected journalists."

At the ceremony on May 14, Mitchell will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree.

Also receiving an honorary degree will be Peggy Noonan, a former speech writer and special assistant to President Ronald Reagan who now writes a weekly column for The Wall Street Journal.
