A former spokesman for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is a top candidate to replace Jeff Zucker – her current boss – as president of CNN, NBC News reported quoting unidentified sources.
Allison Gollust, CNN's executive vice president and chief marketing officer, served four months as Cuomo's communications director before leaving in 2013 to rejoin Zucker when he became head of CNN.
Gollust had worked with Zucker during a 15-year stint at NBC, where she was executive vice president of corporate communications. Zucker was president and chief executive of NBCUniversal before leaving after Comcast purchased the company.
NBC characterized Gollust as Zucker's "most-trusted lieutenant for decades."
"The CNN sources noted that she is almost always present at his side both in the office and in the field," NBC wrote.
CNN and its parent, AT&T, declined comment, according to NBC, which also said no offer has been made to Gollust and that other candidates also were being considered.
The 55-year-old Zucker told his staff earlier this month he intends to step down from his post by the end of the year.
NBC said its sources indicated Gollust would not be as intimately involved in programming and editorial decisions as Zucker. Besides Gollust, CNN's other connection to Cuomo is his brother Chris, who is an anchor on the channel.
