ADL Names Gutnick Media, Public Information Director

Wednesday, 20 October 2010 04:11 PM EDT

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has appointed longtime media employee Todd M. Gutnick to be media relations and public information director.

Gutnick, a former journalist who has served in the New-York based League’s media relations department since 1999, was appointed today to the post, in which he will oversee all facets of ADL’s interactions with the media. His duties include coordinating the League’s media outreach initiatives nationally and through its 30 regional offices across the country.

He replaces longtime director Myrna Shinbaum, whose retirement was effective today.

“The media universe has changed dramatically over the past few years, and we continue to adapt to the changing needs of journalists and the new media,” said Abraham H. Foxman, the ADL’s national director. “Todd brings to his new role the sensibility of an experienced journalist, an understanding of the issues facing the Jewish community and insight into the demands and challenges of the new media landscape.”

Gutnick has served in several positions at the ADL, most recently as deputy media relations director, in which he has interacted daily with the media and been a spokesman for the agency on a range of domestic and international issues. He also has been news editor of the League’s website, responsible for the publication of breaking news and in-depth reports.

A native of Pittsburgh, Gutnick previously was a staff writer at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, where he was a general assignment reporter, an arts reporter, and music critic. He is a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

Gutnick is the 2003 recipient of the ADL Milton A. Senn Award for Professional Excellence and has received honors for his journalism from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers’ Association, the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania, and the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice, and bigotry.
