Actors Claim They Were Duped in Anti-Muslim Movie

The cast of the movie that allegedly sparked the riots that claimed the life of U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens claim they were duped by the director, and had no idea that it would be anti-Islamic.

Their lines were dubbed and they were “grossly misled,” they said in a statement issued the day after attackers killed Stevens and three other Americans in Libya.

“We are 100 percent not behind the film,” the actors, who say they thought they were acting in a movie to be called “Desert Warrior.”

One actress, Cindy Lee Garcia, who had a small role as a woman whose young daughter was given to Muhammad to marry, told the website Gawker that the script she was given had no mention of the prophet.

“It was going to be a film based on how things were 2,000 years ago," she said. "It wasn't based on anything to do with religion, it was just on how things were run in Egypt. There wasn't anything about Muhammad or Muslims or anything."

She says the main character in the movie — which was released under the name “Muslim Innocence” — was called “Master George” and the name “Muhammad” was dubbed after shooting was completed.

Garcia claims that her line, “Is your God a child molester?” was changed in post-production to “Is Muhammad a child molester?”

Commenters on the site who have seen the movie’s trailer said they wondered why actor’s mouths appear not to move in synch with the words on the screen.

Garcia also said that the movie’s director, who claims to be an Israel-American real estate developer called Sam Bacile, told her he is Egyptian. She said he spoke Arabic on set.

In a statement, a group claiming to represent the “entire cast and crew” slammed the movie, saying they are “extremely upset and feel taken advantage of by the producer.”

“We are 100 percent not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose. We are shocked by the drastic re-writes of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred,” the statement said.
