Oscar-winning actor, director and producer Ben Affleck on Tuesday condemned Harvey Weinstein in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment lodged against him — and called for more "women in power" in the industry.
Affleck had been one of many movie heavyweights who hadn't publicly commented on the scandal, first reported by The New York Times, that led to Weinstein's ouster from his own film company.
Melissa Silverstein, founder and publisher of Women and Hollywood, tweeted her disappointment after a Guardian article named 26 male actor and directors who didn't respond to requests for comment on the allegations.
Actress Rose McGowan added:
In a Facebook post, Affleck said he was "saddened and angry" at Weinstein, calling the alleged sexual harassment "completely unacceptable."
"We must support those who come forward, condemn this type of behavior when we see it and help ensure there are more women in positions of power," he wrote.
