Donald Trump Plans to make an announcement about President Obama that he claims will affect the presidential campaign.
With less than two weeks before Americans have to make their mind up about the next president, figures from both the left and right both claimed on Wednesday that they have information that will change views about the candidates.
Donald Trump says he has big news about President Barack Obama, while celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred is in court in Boston to attempt to unseal information about Republican Mitt Romney.
Speculation was that Trump’s announcement was linked to an alleged divorce that Obama and his wife Michelle had considered in 2000, however the billionaire property developer denied that was the case.
Allred’s case involves a nasty custody case involving a Romney business associate.
Rival news organizations clamoring to be first with the news, claimed that Trump would exclusively make his announcement to them. Fox News initially said he would break it on Greta Van Susteren’s show on Tuesday night, then Fox and Friends on Wednesday. CNN said he would make the announcement during an appearance with Piers Morgan on Wednesday.
Trump himself said he would release the announcement by social media. “Tomorrow I will be tweeting on only one subject," he tweeted on Tuesday night, stressing the point one minute later with another message, “My announcement is tomorrow.”
Another rumor was that it would be a revelation that Obama sold cocaine while in college, but Michael Cohen, a spokesman for the reality show host specifically denied that was the case.
Trump appeared to debunk all the speculation on Wednesday sending out another tweet saying, “All predictions re: my 12 o’clock release are totally inaccurate. Stay tuned!” He said the announcement would be made both on Twitter and Facebook.
On the other side, Allred is trying get records released showing that Romney “lied in court,” according to the celebrity website TMZ, which says the brouhaha surrounds the divorce of Staples founder Tom Stemberg and his ex-wife Maureen.
“Partly as a result of Romney's testimony, Maureen got relatively little in the divorce, but we're told just weeks after the divorce ended, Romney and Tom went to Goldman Sachs and cashed in THEIR stock for a fortune. Short story -- Romney allegedly lied to help his friend and screw the friend's wife over,” reports TMZ.
The website claims Maureen suffers from both multiple sclerosis and cancer and Stemberg, who advised Romney on his health plan while he was governor of Massachusetts then canceled her health insurance.
The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Maureen Stemberg went with Allred to court in Boston for a hearing to unseal the divorce records. The Boston Globe is also attempting to get the records unsealed.
Romney lawyer Robert Jones told Time Magazine, “This is a decades-old divorce case in which Mitt Romney provided testimony as to the value of a company. He has no objection to letting the public see that testimony.” However Jones told the court he has no position on whether the papers are unsealed.
