The state of Connecticut has contributed more than $73 million to political campaigns nationwide through the second quarter of this year, with residents donating nearly twice what citizens in other bigger donor states gave, reports the
Connecticut Post.
For example, Connecticut donors gave about $20.30 per person compared to New York's $16.38 and California's $11.90, based on analysis by Hearst Newspapers of campaign fundraising data from 2011 through the second quarter of 2012.
Urgent Poll: Obama or Romney? Who Won the Foreign Policy Debate?
The only state that gave more in per-capita donations than Connecticut was Massachusetts, which contributed more than $133 million to campaigns during the same period, breaking down into $20.39 per person.
The District of Columbia, however, beat both in per-capita donations by contributing on average $159.62 per person for total campaign giving of more than $96 million.
Quinnipiac University political scientist Scott McLean noted that Connecticut is "one of the most wealthy states in the union."
It's no wonder, he told the Post, that candidates "have always come to visit the 'Gold Coast'" looking for money to fund their campaigns.
