Accusations of bigotry in America are an all-day, everyday occurrence. And who best to throw a $33 barrel of oil on the bigotry fire than Donald Trump, the nation's one and only agenda setter. He must have read my post.
His announcement that we need a suspension of Muslim immigrants (or is it refugees?) set off the kind of firestorm that Donald is becoming famous for. This was no off the cuff, where's the filter, remark. Donald read a prepared script knowing that the accusations of “bigotry” would be flying his way at decibel levels never heard before.
So let's see. Is it bigotry to say that Muslims should be suspended from entering our country until our Immigration bureaucracy can actually sort out the presumably small number of potential terrorists from the presumably large number of Mother Teresa wannabes?
For those attacking Donald here are a few questions to test your purity.
What is the makeup, by religion, of the population of the country they are leaving? Is the Christian population stable or persecuted? Are there any Jews? Do they believe in “live and let live?” Are they coming to America to embrace our Judeo-Christian based system of government?
Which side are the bigots on: The one that says they should assimilate or the ones that says that their culture is every bit as good as ours? Why aren't they pouring into nearby Muslim nations, like Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Jordan, with vast open space for settlements? And, of course, what about the Jews?
Are 1 million voting Muslims in Israel evidence of bigotry? Is the West Bank “occupation” more bigotry? When Israel turned over Gaza to the Palestinians, were the Palestinians justified in turning Gaza into a weapons storehouse and a rocket launching pad? Is terror acceptable so long as it is aimed at Jews, but retaliation unacceptable as long as it comes from Jews.
Liberals, are you listening?
Lets cut to the real chase. On Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) I was honored at my synagogue and called to read from the Torah. I was the asked who I was praying for.
I gave the usual answer involving family and friends. And then I added the following: “I am praying for all the brave souls who are speaking out against the rising tide of anti-Semitism here in America, reaching all the way into the Oval Office. There was a chorus of “Amens.”
Am I right? Is President Obama an anti-Semite?
J'accuse. Barack Obama grew up in a Muslim community and school in Indonesia. That doesn't make one an anti-Semite. But the Chicago years were troubling. Barack Obama considered Reverend Wright his personal spiritual adviser and appointed him to preside at his wedding. Add a homegrown terrorist friend like William Ayers who was anti-Israel and the evidence mounts.
Throw in the rocky relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and a pattern emerges. Add Al Sharpton into the mix and you're looking at a prima facia case. For those who don't know or remember, Al Sharpton terrorized the heavily Jewish Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. A mob ended up killing a young man for his crime of being Jewish. To President Obama, it seems, Al Sharpton is his White House Reverend Wright.
But there's more. Remember the first Paris terror event, the one with the Muhammad drawings? Remember when the terror spilled over to the kosher market? And do you remember how President Obama referred to the victims of those attacks? He referred to them as “random people." President Obama could no more say “Jewish victims” than he could say “Islamic terrorists.”
The icing on the cake is the Iran deal. Iran wants nuclear weapons. Why? To blow up Israel. President Obama is fine with that. But what if Iran had a different country in mind.
If the Iranians were going to blow up Ireland or Italy or Kenya or Cuba? Would President Obama still give them nuclear weapons (and $150 billion)? Not a chance.
Of the 200 nations in the world only one is expendable to President Obama: Israel. Game, set, and match. And the American Jews who are fine with this deal? That's a column for another time. Stay tuned.
