Democrats' War on Babies

In Texas we are witnessing the moral bankruptcy of the Democrat Party.

Texas State Senator Wendy Davis, D–Fort Worth, is being mentioned nationally as a “rising star” and interviewed on network news. This sudden groundswell of fame came in the wake of an over 12–hour filibuster she conducted on the floor of the Texas Senate to prevent a vote on a bill she opposed.

And what was Davis fighting for? Was it jobs? Lower taxes? Racial equality? Individual freedom?

No, it was for the right of women to abort their unborn child up to the 26th week, or sixth month, of pregnancy.

It’s not too often the Grim Reaper has a cheering section, but he did during Davis’ filibuster. As she stood tall for death, literally hundreds of orange–shirted supporters packed the Senate gallery and cheered for the right to take the life of the unborn.

NBC News characterized the bill Davis opposed as a “restrictive Texas abortion law,” but was the bill “restrictive” or common sense? The bill Davis defeated would have banned abortion in Texas after the fifth month of pregnancy except in cases of severe fetal abnormalities or to protect the life or “health” of the mother. This is a policy that is supported by 60 percent of Davis’ fellow Texans.

In addition, the bill would have required abortion mills to meet the same building requirements as ambulatory surgical centers, the places where Texans now get laser eye surgery, dental work or a colonoscopy. Procedures where all participants are expected to survive.

And abortion doctors would have had to be competent enough to gain admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles, in case there were complications during the abortion.

All of these requirements were lacking in Kermit Gosnell’s Pennsylvania abortion clinic where women died and babies were murdered after they were born.

As Davis basked in her newfound celebrity, she was flooded with calls from Democrat governors and senators. Even Nancy Pelosi sent her a large flower arrangement — an apt gift when you consider the number of deaths Davis is determined not to prevent.

Now Texas Democrats are urging Davis to run for governor against incumbent Republican Rick Perry, who is considering whether or not to run for a fourth term.

This is sad, depressing and a sorry comment on political life in our nation today.

I will close with what another Democrat said in regard to Davis’ “courageous stand.”

Kirsten Powers, who worked in the Clinton White House, was also appalled by the reaction to Davis’ antics in Texas.

Powers said, “Maybe we should wonder what is wrong with the women who think protecting the right to abort your baby for any reason up to the 26th week is a ‘human right.’”
