Now we know that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal was a watermelon operation all along. Now before you go those-two-are-racists-I-knew-it-all-along on us, we’ll explain what a political watermelon is.
A watermelon is a melon that is green on the outside and red on the inside. A watermelon political operation is one that claims to be environmentally green on the outside but in reality, is red (communism or socialism) on the inside.
That describes AOC’s Green New Deal to a T.
The Washington Post is busy making AOC and her running buddies the new face of the Democrat Party. In a profile of her Chief of Staff Saikat Chakrabarti it quotes him explaining the origin of the GND: “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all… we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire- economy thing.”
And there you have the red inside the Green New Deal. That’s also why the deal includes unrelated items like free healthcare, free college, guaranteed jobs, paid vacations, lavish family leave, and what’s called retirement security.
In the Senate, the GND legislation was sponsored by Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Fauxcahontas, Spartacus Booker, Amy Klobuchar, and Kirsten Gillibrand. Every last one of them candidates for the 2020 Democrat presidential nomination.
Chakrabarti also shared his philosophy for getting this radical takeover of the U.S. economy passed. “The whole theory of change for the current Democratic Party is that to win this country we need to tack to the hypothetical middle. What I think that means is, you don’t take unnecessary risks, which translates to: You don’t really do anything.
“Whereas we’ve got a completely different theory of change, which is: You do the biggest, most badass thing you possibly can — and that’s going to excite people, and then they’re going to go vote. Because the reality is, our problem isn’t that more people are voting Republican than Democrat — our problem is most people who would vote Democrat aren’t voting.”
And to create a sense of urgency and motivate people to vote AOC makes completely untrue, hysterical predictions of doom. The world is ending in 12 years. Don’t have children because they’ll only be barbequed. And so on.
Phillip Klein thinks that viewpoint is flawed. Even if the GND passed, he says implementation will cause it to fail. “…the proposal calls for a decades long economic mobilization. Never in the history of the U.S. has one party controlled all levers of power in Washington for decades. So anything remotely close to the Green New Deal would inevitably be rolled back when Republicans inevitably take power.”
We’re thinking that’s the same empty assurances we were given after Obamacare passed.
Wait until Republicans take control. We waited. And we’re still waiting while Obamacare rolls along.
