Fracking Is OPEC's Enemy

Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal — oil billionaire and member of Saudi Arabia’s ruling family — has provided U.S. policy makers with the three best reasons yet to go full speed ahead with the fracking revolution and the Keystone pipeline

First, fracking reduces Saudi influence in world affairs. Second, it reduces world dependence on OPEC oil. Lastly, it will bring energy independence within reach for the U.S.

Sky News quotes from a letter Alwaleed sent Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi where he warns, “Our country is facing a threat with the continuation of its near-complete reliance on oil, especially as 92 percent of the budget for this year depends on oil” and Alwaleed adds, demand for OPEC oil is “in continuous decline.”

Why is this development good for the U.S.? Oil allows the Saudis to wield outsized influence in world affairs due to OPEC control of Middle East oil. Europe in particular has a tendency to dance to the Saudi tune because of its oil dependence.

Furthermore, the gusher of revenue the oil provides Saudi Arabia is the source of most of the Islamist unrest in the world today. The Saudis don’t confine their exports to oil. They also export the poisonous Wahhabi brand of Islamic fanaticism that claims to return believers to a “pure” brand of Islam.

Saudi money pays for Wahhabi mosques all over the world, including here in the U.S. The money also funds Wahhabi imams, both those based in mosques and traveling imams who spread the Wahhabi word. The money funds anti-Semitic and anti-U.S. propaganda in printed form and on the web.

The results of this outreach are not positive. Wahhabi terrorists are active in Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, India, and Mali to name but a few areas. The Boston bombers and the U.K. beheaders all had ties to Wahhabism.

Increasing the use of fracking technology on federally controlled land is a two-fer: it helps to remove funding for terrorism worldwide and it makes the U.S. less dependent of Middle East oil. It’s a no-brainer, right?

Well, it would be for anyone but the current resident of the White House. President Obama prefers to cater to the fantasies of doom pedaled by his left wing eco-warriors. During his time in office oil production on federal land has actually declined. All the increases have taken place on privately owned land.

What’s more, his approval of the Keystone pipeline is very much in doubt according to a report this week in the Washington Times.

In political terms, if the enemy of your enemy is your friend, shouldn’t the technology that threatens your opponents be your friend, too?
