Golcen State politicians are doing their darndest to make sure your used carbon fuel burning car or truck doesn’t lose a dime in value and may possibly increase.
Depreciation?
Ha!
The first big boost in value came from California’s ban on the sale of new fossil-fuel cars that takes effect in 2035.
Sure, nothing much is going on now. Optimists — bless their hearts — think saner heads will prevail and the ban will be rescinded in no time at all.
They forget that sanity is a disqualification for leftist elected officeholders and members of the state government.
About 2030 you’re going to notice the value of your used mount start to increase.
People will begin asking you how much you’ll take for it when you stop to gas up.
By 2033, spotters for car theft rings will be cruising your suburban streets looking for likely candidates for midnight acquisition.
By that time, if you’re smart, you’ll be parking your "Klimate Kriminal" ride in the garage where prying eyes won’t be able to see it.
The dealer who sold you your car will be pestering you on a weekly basis, asking if you’d like to take advantage of his high, high trade-in values and swap your used car for a brand–new electron emitter.
By 2035 the only in-migration to California will be Arizonans, Nevadans, and Oregonians.
They'll be making a one-way trip to unload their clunkers and take the bus home to buy a new climate warmer with California dollars.
And you’ll be watching the "Kelly Blue Book" used car ticker on a daily basis to see just the right time to offer your used car as collateral on a down payment loan for a new home.
But why wait until 2035 to cash in?
Crazy spreads in California like a social disease! Calif. State Sen. Scott Wiener, D-Dist. 11, — the statesman who wants to speed up the sexual development of teenage boys — now wants to slow down the top speed of cars.
Presumably gas and battery powered.
Fox News reports, "Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco, introduced the Speeding and Fatality Emergency Reduction on California Streets Package this week that includes a provision that would require 'new vehicles sold in California' to 'install speed governors, smart devices that automatically limit the vehicle’s speed to 10 miles above the legal limit.'"
The justification for Big Brother in the engine compartment is "a rise in reckless driving since the onset of the pandemic. A recent report from TRIP, a national transportation research group, found that traffic fatalities in California have increased by 22 percent from 2019 to 2022, compared to 19 percent for the US overall. In 2022, 4,400 Californians died in car crashes."
This is classic leftist government.
Create a problem and then solve it by taking away your liberty.
Reckless driving and traffic crashes increased because after St. George Floyd died, police in particularly anti-cop jurisdictions — California, anyone? — stopped writing speeding tickets.
Cops decided they didn’t need the aggravation or the potential for a career-ending confrontation with an iPhone camera.
Wiener and the rest of the Defund the Police leftists create the speeding problem and then solve it by making your car slower and more expensive.
And Wiener has a special requirement for truck drivers, who likely frighten him anyway.
"The bill package also 'requires side underride guards on trucks, to reduce the risk of cars and bikes being pulled underneath the truck during a crash' and 'physical improvements like new crosswalks and curb extensions on state-owned surface streets to better accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, the disability community, and transit users.'"
New cars will be slower and more expensive than used cars!
Who could ask for more?
Calif. State Sen. Wiener and the rest of the global warming fanatics are turning a depreciating asset into an appreciating asset with their druid-approved magic wand.
