Mark Zuckerberg is vowing to finish his quest to visit all 50 U.S. states this year and the Facebook CEO's ambitious road trip could be a signal he's powering up to seek public office.
The Guardian newspaper says the 50-state challenge has "given more weight to the idea that he could move into politics."
"After a tumultuous last year, my hope for this challenge is to get out and talk to more people about how they're living, working and thinking about the future," Zuckerberg wrote Tuesday night on his Facebook page.
"Going into this challenge, it seems we are at a turning point in history. For decades, technology and globalization have made us more productive and connected. This has created many benefits, but for a lot of people it has also made life more challenging.
"This has contributed to a greater sense of division than I have felt in my lifetime. We need to find a way to change the game so it works for everyone."
Zuckerberg says he's already set foot in 20 states, and hopes to see the other 30 in 2017, a challenge that boils down to a new state about every 12 days.
The Guardian says Zuckerberg's state-hopping goal follows revelations that he and two Facebook board members have "discussed how the CEO might pursue a political career while retaining control of Facebook."
