Several news outlets including The Associated Press, CNN, NBC and Fox News declared former Vice President Joe Biden the winner of Wisconsin’s presidential election vote on Wednesday, making the call after the state’s elections director said that nearly all votes had been counted.
The AP made its declaration shortly after 2 p.m. and has been joined by CNN, NBC and Fox News.
Unofficial tallies had Biden with 1,630,396 votes and President Donald Trump with 1,609,879, less than sixth tenths of a percentage apart.
State Elections Commission director Meagan Wolfe said earlier that all unofficial results had been tallied except for the town of Willow with fewer than 300 voters.
The 10 electoral votes increased Biden’s unofficial electoral college tally to 248, compared to 214 to Trump, who immediately called for a recount. Two hundred seventy votes are needed to win the electoral college.
Several other states remain undecided including Michigan and Pennsylvania.
"Despite ridiculous public polling used as a voter suppression tactic, Wisconsin has been a razor thin race as we always knew that it would be," Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said in a statement, citing reports of irregularities in several Wisconsin counties.
