Former CIA analyst Ned Price said Tuesday that President Donald Trump's accusations his Trump Tower offices were wire-tapped by former President Barack Obama "absolutely" had no merit.
Price, who quit the agency last month after 11 years, told Dana Bash on CNN that top U.S. intelligence officials — including FBI Director James Comey and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper — "have said there's absolutely no merit to this.
"Personally, I would not know — but the people who would know and have been uniform are saying there's absolutely no truth, nor could be any truth to what Donald Trump has alleged."
In a Saturday Twitter rant, President Trump accused Obama of ordering the tapping of his telephones in New York during the campaign as part of an investigation into alleged Russian dealings by his associates.
Clapper has since refuted Trump's claim — and Comey has reportedly asked the Justice Department to reject the president's accusations, though he has not spoken publicly on them.
"The president of the United States does not have the authority to direct surveillance against any person, whether it be a national citizen or foreign," Price told Bash.
