The White House is urging supporters outside the administration to attack Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on television as the administration tries to build a case for President Donald Trump to fire him, The Wall Street Journal is reporting.

According to the Journal, two people who talked with Trump this week believe Rosenstein, who appointed special counsel Robert Mueller, would soon be gone, along with Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

"It's a matter of when, not if," said one person who talked about the issue with Trump.

And a second person added: "Eventually, it will happen."

And that person said the FBI raid on Trump's attorney Michael Cohen this week has added to the president's frustration with Rosenstein.

The Journal noted allies of Trump have said the raid "was not good for the long-term relationship between the president and Sessions and Rosenstein."

Meanwhile, Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol claimed Rosenstein's ouster could come "as early as today."

His comments came during an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

But the Journal said Trump's senior advisers, including press secretary Sarah Sanders, have told the president not to fire Rosenstein
