White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tamped down comments about President Donald Trump that had been made recently by two White House officials, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Gary Cohn, director of the National Economic Council.

On Sunday, Tillerson said the president "speaks for himself" regarding his comments on racial violence.

"I think the president certainly shares the values of Americans. I think that's why he's the president — because of overwhelmingly a large number of Americans came out and voted for him because he does reflect their values. They feel like he speaks for them," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said to reporters aboard Air Force One, according to The Hill.

The relationship between Tillerson and Trump is "very strong," Sanders added.

Cohn said on Friday that the Trump administration "can and must do better" at condemning hate groups.

"Certainly, no one is distancing themselves from the president," Sanders said, according to The Hill.

"I think that, at moments, maybe you have people that disagree. I think that's a healthy thing for you to be able to have productive conversation," Sanders said.

Trump fumed privately, but would not likely comment publicly on Tillerson and Cohn's criticisms, Politico reported on Monday.
