A lawyer in the White House counsel's office is being eyed as the possible source for House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, Yahoo's Michael Isikoff reported.
His name — Michael Ellis.
Ellis used to work for Nunes on the intel committee and was recently hired by the White House to work on national security matters, Isikoff reported.
Nunes on Monday admitted that he was on White House grounds last week to visit a source and view classified information regarding the surveillance of President Donald Trump and his campaign team.
The next day, Nunes announced — without consulting his own committee — that the president's communications had been monitored as part of the intelligence community's surveillance of foreign diplomats.
Nunes' revelation set off a series of events that have raged on, culminating with the cancelation of the week's intelligence committee regularly scheduled meetings and calls by Democrats for Nunes to recuse himself from all matters regarding the Trump-Russia investigation.
Ellis' official title is special assistant to the president, senior associate counsel to the president, and deputy national security council legal advisor.
