Wisconsin exit polling shows that more than 80 percent of Republicans support Gov. Scott Walker, who is facing a June 5 recall election. The poll highlights the polarization of voters in the Badger state,
The Washington Post political blog The Fix reported.
Some 71 percent of voters in the GOP primary strongly approve of Walker and 11 percent somewhat approve of him. Just 13 percent of Republican voters strongly disapprove of Walker and 4 percent somewhat disapprove. Other recent polling shows a sharply divided electorate.
An NBC/Marist poll found 48 percent of people approved of the job Walker is doing while an identical 48 percent disapproved. While 91 percent of Republicans approved of how Walker was handling his job, 84 percent of Democrats disapproved and independents split evenly on the question with 47 percent approving and 47 percent disapproving, the Post reported.
“What that slew of data means is simple,” the Fix wrote. “If you like Scott Walker, you LOVE him. If you don’t like Scott Walker, you HATE him. And virtually everyone in the state is in one of those two camps.
“That means that tens of millions of dollars will be spent between now and June 5 to convince a minuscule number of undecideds how they should feel about the governor.”
