GOP Firemen Out Firing Up Troops

One good way to guess who will seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 is to watch the “visiting firemen” — that is, speakers at GOP events outside their home states whose presence fires up talk of a presidential run.

On May 20, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is expected to draw a sold-out crowd in Connecticut for the state GOP’s Prescott Bush Dinner, named after the U.S. senator whose son and grandson both became president.

On May 29, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz will be the featured speaker at the New York Republican Party’s annual dinner. Both Walker and Cruz are being mentioned increasingly as presidential candidates.
