It's now conservative senators' turn to assail the massive $1.3 trillion funding bill that landed on their laps Thursday, The Hill reports.

The Senate is expected to first read more than 2,000 pages of a bill loaded with too much spending and pass it Thursday in time to make the start of a two-week recess for lawmakers. And they're not happy about it.

"This is a great down-sized whiz down the leg of every taxpayer," said Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul continued on his days-long rampage against a bill he said he would vote against earlier this week.

Earlier Thursday it was House conservatives grousing about the massive spending plan before the lower chamber eventually passed it to send it up to the Senate.

Any senator could block attempts to speed up a vote on the package, as Paul did a month ago, forcing an hours-long shutdown of the government.

Paul has yet to commit either way about allowing an early vote or sticking to rules that would allow the earliest vote to be early Saturday morning, after the 11:59 p.m. deadline to skirt what could be a third shutdown since January.

"If I had to guess I would guess it would be before we leave today, though I don't know what that means. ... It could be two in the morning; it could be 8 p.m.," said Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt.

Every senator would have to consent in order to have the vote early.

Either way, Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker also has already said he will vote against it.

"This is one of the most grotesque pieces of legislation I can remember," he said.
