ATLANTA (AP) — Conservative Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall of Georgia has been ousted by Republican challenger Austin Scott.
The race for Georgia's 2nd Congressional District, meanwhile, remains undecided.
The Associated Press initially called that race for Republican state lawmaker and pastor Mike Keown (COW-en) based on early returns. The call was later withdrawn when Democratic Rep. Sanford Bishop took the lead early Wednesday.
Bishop has represented the district for 18 years. Keown is a state lawmaker and pastor from Coolidge.
In the other race, Marshall had insisted his independent voting record showed he was not beholden to either party. The Democrat voted against President Barack Obama's health care overhaul and said he opposed keeping Nancy Pelosi as House speaker.
