Plans to mount an electronic "cost of war" sign outside Binghamton City Hall have been put on hold.
Mayor Matthew Ryan announced last week that the 4-foot-wide sign would be placed on an exterior wall Wednesday.
On Monday, the two-term Democrat said he decided to postpone the installation after his office received comments from people who feel the sign would slight American troops. Ryan says the delay allows for more time for discussion.
A local peace activist group was paying for the $6,000 sign. It would display how much taxpayer money is being spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Ryan has said he hoped tallying the ongoing expense in a prominent place would stimulate debate on the nation's spending priorities.
