CHICAGO (AP) — When Rahm Emanuel becomes mayor of Chicago, the former White House chief of staff is sure to bring a new image to the city where the retiring Richard Daley has reigned for more than two decades.
Daley preferred a more low-key social life and favored the traditional trench coat look, but Emanuel is frequently spotted in jeans while touring the city's vibrant arts-and-culture scene. He recently went to a Neil Young concert with actress Jennifer Beals, the star of "Flashdance," and her husband.
In some ways, the hipper attitude of a younger mayor punctuates the transformation that Daley engineered to change Chicago from a grimy Midwestern industrial hub into a gleaming global tourist destination.
The 51-year-old Emanuel will be sworn into office Monday.
