President Donald Trump's tweets regarding his travel ban are undermining his own positions, according to an editorial in The Wall Street Journal.

The Journal noted that Trump sent tweets early Monday that called his order a "travel ban," although his administration had said the order was not a ban.

"Some people with a propensity for self-destructive behavior can't seem to help themselves, President Trump apparently among them," the Journal wrote.

"Mr. Trump may find himself running an administration with no one but his family and the Breitbart staff. People of talent won't work for a boss who undermines them in public without thinking about the consequences," the Journal piece said.

The Journal also criticized Trump for his tweets that rebuked London Mayor Sadiq Khan's response to the Saturday attacks on London Bridge.

In one tweet, the president said Khan had made the terror threat seem less dangerous than it was by saying the London public had "no reason to be alarmed."

However, the Journal noted that the mayor's tweet was referring to increased presence of police in the wake of the attack.

Khan's office released a statement that said the mayor has "more important things to do" than respond to Trump's tweets.

"The U.S. Commander in Chief also has better uses of his time than making himself look foolish," the editorial said, adding that Trump's comment made him seem "small."

Trump's tweets appear to be self-defeating for the president, the Journal added.

"Mark it all down as further evidence that the most effective opponent of the Trump presidency is Donald J. Trump."
