President Donald Trump was unhappy with Raj Shah's remarks Thursday when he said the White House "could have done better" handling the situation surrounding Rob Porter, CNN reported.
Shah, filling in for press secretary Sarah Sanders, was blitzed during Thursday's press briefing with questions about the former staff secretary, who resigned Wednesday amid public allegations made by his two ex-wives that he physically abused them.
"We all could have done better over the last few hours, the last few days, in dealing with this. . . but the emerging reports were not reflective of the individual we have come to know," Shah told reporters.
Trump watched Shah's debut and was not pleased, CNN reports.
Shah, deputy press secretary, had to deal with the report that chief of staff John Kelly knew for months about the allegations against Porter, but continued to elevate his profile in the White House anyway.
Shah was filling in for the vacationing Sanders.
