President Donald Trump held his first re-election fundraiser in the nation's capital Wednesday night, and White House staffers left reporters waiting outside with many questions.
Independent Journal Review writes that no president has ever held a fundraiser for himself this early into his first term, as Trump was inaugurated in January.
The White House would not say who paid for the fundraiser or if Trump International Hotel, which hosted the event, made money from it.
CNN reports that 300 or so diners paid $35,000 to attend, although some tickets cost $100,000. The total haul was expected to eclipse $10 million.
CNN notes that the media was first told it could not attend the event, but after some reporters protested that decision the White House said it would allow the press pool to attend.
Two hours later, however, it was announced that the event was once again closed to all media.
