Trumps Lobby for Republican Congressman's Online Gambling Bill

Tuesday, 01 November 2011 12:25 PM EDT

Real estate mogul Donald Trump and daughter Ivanka are lobbying hard for passage of a bill to legalize and regulate online gambling in the United States, insisting it will be a huge moneymaker for the country — and for the Trumps, who want to break into the business, reports DailyCaller.com.

“It would be a tremendous source of taxable revenue for states or the federal government and an enormous generator of jobs,” said Ivanka, who heads up business development for the Trump empire.

The Trumps have gotten behind the controversial pro-gambling bill, sponsored by Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, that critics say will take money away from state lotteries and retailers who sell lottery tickets, and divert it to private companies.

“In Maryland, for example, federalized poker and casino gambling would put at risk the $519 million annually we generate from our state lottery — our state’s fourth largest source of revenue — and jeopardize the jobs and survival of lottery retailers, many of which are small businesses,” wrote that state’s Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is considering the pros and cons of online gambling regulation.
