Hillary Clinton's pick Friday of Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate "was an absolute slap in the face to Bernie Sanders supporters" — and the Trump campaign is going to actively try to recruit his voters, spokeswoman Katrina Pierson said Saturday.
"Tim Kaine promoted the rigged delegate system that stomped out Bernie Sanders and his supporters," Pierson told Uma Pemmaraju on
Fox News. "She picked someone she felt like could appeal to Republicans.
"This just goes to show how vulnerable Hillary Clinton is," she later added. "She was the woman candidate. She was supposed to be winning by double digits right now and she isn't.
"This was definitely a play to some of those white men who are said to only support Republicans right now."
Trump's campaign will "absolutely" reach out to Sanders' supporters, Pierson said.
"We have the same goal — and that is putting Americans first. That means bringing back jobs. That means increasing wages. By stopping illegal immigration. That's what a lot of people want.
"This is what all those young people were talking about with Hillary Clinton," she said. "Hillary Clinton was at the forefront of every problem we're facing in this country over the last four decades."
