Gina Loudon: Trump Travel Ban Will Keep Florida Safe

The Supreme Court upheld President Trump’s travel ban last week, proving his critics wrong and making the country much safer.

Though the travel ban took time since the earliest days of the Trump presidency to pass obstructionist legal challenges, its implementation is vital for America’s national security interests.

War-torn countries such as Libya, Syria, Somalia, and Yemen simply cannot provide our government with accurate records or intelligence on their citizens who seek to enter our country.

The governments of Iran and Venezuela are enemies of America, and allowing free travel from those countries poses a clear risk of espionage — or even sabotage.

Floridians know all too well what can happen when migrant or refugee families are not vetted properly. In 2016, Omar Mateen — the radicalized child of immigrants — murdered 49 people and wounded over 50 more.

Florida has also been the home base for more ISIS supporters than almost every other state in the nation, as well as home to the third highest number of people charged with crimes related to the barbaric Islamic terror group.

While the radical leftists who control the Democratic Party want to open our borders wide to anyone and everyone who could and would do us harm, the Trump Administration has fought tirelessly to keep Americans safe from foreign terror.

Last year, Attorney General Jeff Sessions revealed that hundreds of refugees are under FBI investigation for terror-related activities. Sessions warned that individuals “seeking to support or commit terrorist attacks here will try to enter through our refugee program.”

Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran wisely expressed similar concerns in a letter to President Trump last year, saying there is a “tremendous” likelihood that some of the Syrian, Iraqi, and Afghanistan refugees who were resettled in Florida in 2016 pose a “legitimate” risk to the people of Florida. This is an ominous circumstance for the Sunshine State.

Terror attacks like the Pulse Nightclub shooting clearly show the serious security threat posed by improperly vetted migrants. The radical left-wing immigration policies of the Obama administration have left Florida communities more susceptible to infiltration and our citizens more vulnerable to attacks. Despite this, the Democrats and their cheerleaders in the mainstream media are still claiming that the president’s travel ban is a “Muslim ban.” They are lying in order to maintain open borders and political chaos.

The foolishness of this claim is obvious — Venezuela and North Korea aren’t even Muslim countries, and the five Muslim-majority countries affected by the ban represent only a fraction of the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims.

The Supreme Court’s decision belies the claims of critics who say that President Trump’s ban goes against the spirit of this country or beyond the scope of his powers. They’ve now been proven wrong, officially. The Constitution clearly gives the president the right to bar the entry of foreign nationals for national security interests, and the highest court of the land has confirmed this.

President Trump is delivering on his promise to Make America Safe Again. Despite the howls of protest by those who would sacrifice our safety and security on the altar of political correctness, the Supreme Court has confirmed his constitutional power to do so.

The people of Florida can rest easy knowing they finally have a president who is unwilling to expose them to foreign nationals with ties to terror who wish to do us all harm.
