The Trump administration is appealing an October court ruling that partially blocks a ban on transgender people serving in the military, The Hill reported.
Last month's ruling in District Court for the District of Columbia determined President Donald Trump's August directive changing the transgender policy back to what it was before June 2016, and banning new transgender recruits from enlisting, cannot be enforced while it is under review.
The Hill, citing a court filing, noted an appeal was filed by the administration Tuesday — a move blasted by LGBT advocacy groups representing the plaintiffs, who have argued preventing transgender people from serving in the military is "irresponsible and discriminatory."
The appeal comes on the same day a second federal judge blocked the ban, ruling transgender service members have "demonstrated that they are already suffering harmful consequences" due to Trump’s policy.
