Tuberville to Newsmax: 'Fought Hard' for Unborn, Military

By    |   Tuesday, 05 December 2023 07:14 PM EST

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., told Newsmax on Tuesday that he "fought hard" for several months to root out the woke agenda from the U.S. military but that ultimately it was "game, set, match" going up against the "anti-American" agenda of the likes of House Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

Tuberville dropped his holds on most military promotions earlier Tuesday and joined "The Chris Salcedo Show" to explain how it unfolded.

"We fought hard. We fought for the unborn. We've been fighting for the military," Tuberville told Salcedo. "When you're going against somebody like Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden and [Defense] Secretary [Lloyd] Austin, who care really nothing about this country, other than how they want it to be, how they see it, how they want to structure it, it's a hard fight."

The final straw, Tuberville said, came when Schumer changed the rules to keep the full conference of lawmakers from debating the Pentagon's policy, which reimbursed service members for going out of state for an abortion. Tuberville's aim was to keep the abortion policy he's been fighting out of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

"I love for the taxpayers to have the people of this country, that oversee what we do, like the White House and the Pentagon, to go by the Constitution. We fought hard for that," Tuberville said. "But after last week, Chuck Schumer, he changed the rules of the NDAA.

"We had it to where we had enough votes to get it voted on and kept in the NDAA, the policy that was supposed to be in for abortion. Chuck Schumer changed the rules and said, 'No, I'm not going to allow that to happen. I'm gonna make all the decisions on the Senate side.' He did, and it was game, set, match," Tuberville said.

"So, we fought hard. I could have kept doing this, but I wasn't gonna hold back the promotions from people that needed to be promoted," he added.

"These are not Americans that we're dealing with on the Democratic side," Tuberville said of Biden, Schumer, and Austin by name. "They're anti-American. They want to change this country, and I believe some of them are so naïve they don't understand what's happening."

And so, the Pentagon's woke agenda is "gonna be in there until we get somebody in the White House that really concern and cares about life," he told Salcedo.

The Senate passed through more than 400 nominees after Tuberville lifted his hold, officially ending the senator's 10-month blockade.

"I'm releasing everybody. I still got a hold on, I think, 11 four-star generals. Everybody else is completely released from me." Tuberville said on the Senate floor Tuesday. "But other than that, it's over."
