Tom Cotton: Wisconsin Governor Should Have Acted Faster to Quell Protests

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers should have acted more quickly to stop violence from growing in Kenosha after the Jacob Blake police shooting, Sen. Tom Cotton said Tuesday while agreeing with President Donald Trump about the action in the community.

"He should have called out the National Guard and helped the police department from the very beginning last Sunday," the Arkansas Republican said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "He only did so after three days, and that resulted in so much damage and even more lives lost. So I join the president in commending our law enforcement, and where necessary, our National Guard, to help protect the lives of our citizens and their property."

Cotton has released advertising in Wisconsin and in Minnesota, the site of violent protests after the death of George Floyd, warning that the "violent mob" wants Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden to win as "then no one will stand in their way."

"It's rich that they're blaming President Trump for this violence," Cotton said on Fox News. "I don't think those were Trump supporters harassing Republicans leaving the White House last week or harassing diners on the streets of Washington, D.C., or trying to set fire last night to the Portland mayor's residential building. Those are violent left-wing anarchists that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris not only refuse to denounce by name ... they even endorsed bailing them out of jail. Kamala Harris called on her supporters to support a fund that would bail out accused rapists and murderers."

He also accused Biden of using statistics that are not facts with his claims of violence dropping during the Obama presidency, as "this crime is rising and riots are occurring in cities with Democratic mayors and states with Democratic governors who refuse to call out the National Guard and liberal prosecutors who refuse to press charges against any of these criminals."
