The co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots accused President Donald Trump of not draining the swamp as he promised and instead siding with the "swamp monsters."
Activist Mark Meckler told The Hill he's not happy with the president after he criticized the House Freedom Caucus in a Thursday tweet.
"The man who promised to 'Drain the Swamp' now appears to be the 'Creature from the Black Lagoon,'" Meckler said. "He is now on the side of the swamp monsters."
Meckler left the tea party in 2012, three years after he co-founded the conservative group. He is now the president of Citizens for Self-Governance. The Hill notes that the latter's database includes 2 million conservative activists nationwide.
During Thursday's White House press briefing, press secretary Sean Spicer suggested to reporters that the House Freedom Caucus should start voting with the American people in mind rather than their own political agendas.
