Stacey Abrams, Georgia’s nominee in the Georgia gubernatorial election who is set to deliver the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday, is being urged to run for Senate by Democratic leaders, reports The New York Times.

“I would love to see her have a bigger stage,” political donor Nancy Koziol told the Times.

“I hope she runs” against Georgia Republican Sen. David Perdue, said David Myers, an investor and Democratic political donor who helped raise money for Abrams in 2018.

“That election was stolen from her,” he added, referring to the gubernatorial race.

Abrams, the former Georgia House Democratic leader, lost to Republican Brian Kemp by fewer than 55,000 votes. She’s stayed in the spotlight, though, and said she’s determined to seek office again.

Abrams “is a present and future leader in this country” and “a dynamic, moral leader,” Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., said in announcing her selection for the SOTU rebuttal. Schumer has implored Abrams to run, per the NYT. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said that Abrams’s “electrifying message of courage, perseverance and hope reinvigorated our nation and our politics.”
