Former Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., says President Donald Trump has actually made the Russia investigation "longer" — and he admires the investigative work produced so far, the Washington Examiner reported.

The assessment came during remarks at the University of Chicago.

"I've told him [Trump] many times that there's no way to make an investigation like this shorter, but there's lots of ways to make it longer, and he's executed on a number of those ways to make it longer," Christie said.

"You can't argue that the investigation hasn't been effective so far. A number of guilty pleas, couple of indictments in a year. It's pretty good work," he added.

Christie also praised Mueller personally, describing him as smart, hardworking, and nonpartisan, the Examiner reported.

The support comes amid increased pressure by Trump and his allies to pressure Mueller for an end to the year-old investigation of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
