The FBI has been unchecked for too long and the latest inspector general report's revelations must do more than just expose abuses; there must be "consequences," according to former federal prosecutor Sidney Powell.

"I think it's has been going on for a very long time, and it's only gotten worse because no one has ever been held accountable," Powell told "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y. "It's simply not going to improve until people realize the consequences for their outrageous actions."

Powell added to host John Catsimatidis investigators should be held to standards at least as high as private American citizens, if not higher.

"The same's true for prosecutorial misconduct in the Department of Justice," she added. "There's simply no consequences for any of these people – even when they intentionally hide evidence, which should be obstruction of justice, when they intentionally falsify documents, which is definitely obstruction of justice – nothing's happened to any of them.

"They can lie to the inspector general, which is a federal crime, and not be prosecuted. That's happened to any number of people within the Department of Justice or the FBI. That's unacceptable."

Powell would like to see the FBI turned "upside down and shake it out."
