Rep. Seth Moulton, while stumping for Pennsylvania 18th Congressional district candidate Conor Lamb Tuesday, said his candidate is running by standing up for change, not by fighting against President Donald Trump and other Republicans.
"I think it's time for the Democratic Party to stand for something, not against something," the Massachusetts Democrat told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program. "He's going to do it by standing for things, not just talking about how terrible Trump is."
Democrats in the Pennsylvania district, where a special election is being held on Tuesday, and elsewhere voted for Trump because they wanted some kind of change, Moulton added, even though they were Democrats their entire lives.
Lamb, Moulton said, is a "great candidate because he represents the people of this district. He's clearly respected by them there."
Moulton said that Lamb, a fellow former U.S. Marine, represents a new generation of leadership.
"He talks a lot about infrastructure, about how Trump's plan is a lot of talk, but it hasn't done anything," he told the program.
"I think the Democrats need to have a future focus plan that really talks about how we can build an infrastructure that will allow America to compete ... that's part of what Conor stands for. He's also talking about how we have to preserve Social Security and Medicare."
