Dick Morris: GOP Looking Good in Push to Take Senate

Tuesday, 28 October 2014 05:37 PM EDT

A Senate takeover by Republicans in the midterm elections is not yet in the bag, but there are some positive signs for GOP candidates, Republican strategist Dick Morris says.

"Nobody can be confident with razor thin margins, but let's put it this way, we have three states with double digit leads," Morris said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"South Dakota with Larry Pressler [running as an independent] is no longer a threat. West Virginia and Montana are all takeaways. And then we have three states with four and five point leads, Arkansas, Louisiana and … Alaska.

"Then in Iowa and Colorado it's very close, but we've had a lead in all of the recent polling in Iowa and all but one of the recent polls in Colorado. New Hampshire we're still a few behind, North Carolina we're tied."

Morris — a Newsmax contributor and co-author with Eileen McGann of "Power Grab: Obama's Dangerous Plan for a One Party Nation," published by Humanix Books — believes Republican Thom Tillis will best Democrat Sen. Kay Hagan.

"It was a Hagan lead and now it appears to have been tied up into a dead heat, he said.

"Tillis will ultimately pull that out."

In Alaska, Morris predicted a victory by Republican Dan Sullivan over Democratic Sen. Mark Begich.

"The underlying fact of that race is it's a Republican state, a very red state," he said.
