The rollout of President Donald Trump's executive order on travel was a "bit clumsy," but the president signed the order to protect Americans from "people who come from terror-ridden countries," Rep. Sean Duffy said Monday.
"Look to Europe," the Wisconsin Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends," while pointing at the problems being created by massive migrations into those countries. "They take up guns. They get in trucks and they kill innocent people."
"Mr. Trump is saying let's take a pause, make sure we can appropriately vet them. Yeah, I support the policy and I think a lot of my constituents support Trump."
Meanwhile, Duffy said he would hope that the courts interpret the Constitution as granting protected rights to citizens only, but he does believe politics has infiltrated all aspects of the government, including the courts.
"Our first responsibility is to the American people, not to refugees or folks from other parts of the country," said Duffy.
"We are a great country who allow people and who come from hard places who are attacked and demonized. In my own community we have a huge Muslim population [and] we open them with open arms. These are people who want to buy in to America."
Meanwhile, most Americans approve of what the Trump administration is doing, and protesters, like those in the Women's March in Washington in January are protesting over politics and that he'd won the election, not Trump's decisions and rulings.
