The Faith & Freedom Coalition said Tuesday that its 1.8 million members were "rejoicing" over the Supreme Court's decision to strike down a California law requiring clinics that counsel women against abortion to notify clients of the availability of abortions paid for by the state.
"Today is another monumental day in the pro-life movement in America as the Supreme Court upheld that any law forcing pro-life pregnancy centers to provide free advertising for tax-funded abortions is a violation of their First Amendment rights," Faith & Freedom Coalition Executive Director Tim Head said in a statement.
"We applaud this decision by the court to stand up for the rights of the unborn and for upholding the free speech rights of pro-life pregnancy centers."
The justices ruled 5-4 the California law violated the free speech rights of these Christian-based centers.
The Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973, but the broader issue of abortion rights was not at issue in the case decided Tuesday.
