Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Wednesday that Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden’s advantage in the state is too great for President Donald Trump to overcome with a recount.
The day after the election, the former governor tweeted a portion from Wisconsin’s election recount procedures, which state: “Only an aggrieved candidate, defined as a candidate for an office whose total votes were within 1% of the winner’s vote total when at least 4,000 votes were cast...may request a recount of results for an office. Wis. Stat. § 9.01(1)(a)1.”
“If it holds, 20,000 is a high hurdle,” he added, referring to the roughly 20,000 more votes that Biden has received in Wisconsin, which has yet to be called for either candidate as of Wednesday afternoon.
“After recount in 2011 race for WI Supreme Court, there was a swing of 300 votes,” Walker, a Republican who is typically favorable towards the president, later tweeted. “After recount in 2016 Presidential race in WI, @realDonaldTrump numbers went up by 131. As I said, 20,000 is a high hurdle.”
