MSNBC's Joe Scarborough on Tuesday slammed Donald Trump Jr.'s comments on Twitter in the wake of the reports of his meeting with a Russian lawyer who allegedly promised information about Hillary Clinton's campaign.

"How stupid of Don Junior? I mean, I guess it runs in the family to go on Twitter when he's clearly in legal jeopardy," Scarborough said Tuesday on his "Morning Joe" program.

"This time yesterday morning everybody knew he was clearly in legal jeopardy. He goes up on Twitter again yesterday, only to be undercut by The New York Times last night, because people inside his own White House, inside his own administration, are leaking on him," Scarborough added.

On Monday, Trump Jr. tweeted:

Scarborough replied with a tweet of his own, noting that experienced campaign veteran Paul Manafort was at the Russian meeting.

Trump Jr. followed up with a response to The New York Times story:

Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer who met with Trump Jr., said Tuesday that in that meeting, she did not meet to share information about the Clinton campaign.
