Scarborough: I Won't Run for Office

Joe Scarborough likely won't run for public office again for eight years, he tells The Hill.

The MSNBC "Morning Joe" host said he probably will stay off the campaign trail at least until his daughter, now 10, graduates from high school.

Speculation about the former House member's potential interest in future public office has been stoked by the release of his new book, "The Right Path: From Ike to Reagan, How Republicans Once Mastered Politics."
 

But the 50-year-old said he is enjoying his day job.
 

In his book, Scarborough criticizes the GOP: "Republicans can kick moderates like Gen. [Colin] Powell out of its party's mainstream and drive them into the arms of the Democratic Party every four years, or they can leave their ideological comfort zone, work aggressively to expand their political coalitions, and start stealing voters away from Democrats like Hillary Clinton."
 

Scarborough told The Hill that Clinton will become a two-term president, but said Republicans should nominate a conservative in 2016, someone who is "an ideological, small-government conservative," but also a pragmatic who, like Reagan, can make a compelling case on how "our country’s best days are ahead."
