Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., on Sunday declared “there’s no place for hate” — condemning Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King’s embrace of terms like “white nationalist” and “white supremacist.”

In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” the House Minority Whip said he expects House Republicans are “going to continue to talk about this.”

“We were very quick to reject those comments,” he said of King’s recent questioning why the racially-charged descriptions are offensive. “There's no place for hate, for bigotry or anybody who supports that ideology. It's evil ideology. We all have to stand up against it.”

“We have to raise the bar on civility,” he added. “We need to call it out on the Republican side and the Democrat side. I've been willing to call it out on both.”

Scalise also insisted it’s Congress that “needs to solve” the problem of the partial government shutdown triggered by a lack of border wall funding — and that President Donald Trump wants legislators to do so.

“We don't want it to come down to a national emergency declaration,” he said. “The president has authority under law. He says he doesn't want it to come to that. He wants Congress to solve this problem. Congress needs to solve this problem.”
