Rep. Scalise: Dems Focused on COVID Spending, Not on Goals

Republicans want President Joe Biden's coronavirus stimulus plan to contain a "focused effort" on getting people back to work, reopening the economy, and expanding the coronavirus vaccine, but Democrats are more focused on giving more money away while there still remains a trillion dollars that hasn't been spent yet from previous COVID legislation, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise said Monday.

"They want to spend without a single Republican voter," the Louisiana Republican said on Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria," noting that Republicans are asking why money isn't being spent to help to people get back on track.

For example, Scalise said the vaccination goals can be ramped up to 200 million people in the first 100 days of Biden's presidency, but "they don't want to do that right now. I would rather see them focus money strategically, especially the money sitting out there, a trillion dollars plus that hasn't even been spent."

Meanwhile, Biden, starting from the first day of his presidency, has declared an "assault" on American jobs with actions such as canceling the Keystone Pipeline, said Scalise.

"John Kerry will get on his private jet and fly around telling you not to fly on commercial airliners."

The United States had been exporting gas and oil to other countries, he added, and with Biden's actions on the pipeline and elsewhere, "you have given a gift to Russia," said Scalise.

He added that there are Democrats in Congress who also don't want the cuts.

"Four Democrats sent a letter to Joe Biden saying that his energy policies are going to devastate jobs," said Scalise. "If we can get more of the drumbeat around the nation, people standing up and saying 'hey, hold on a second,' ... I hope he revisits this."
