Palin Opposes DREAM Act

Thursday, 02 June 2011 03:32 PM EDT

Potential Republican presidential hopeful Sarah Palin voiced opposition to the proposed DREAM Act during her visit to New York City on Wednesday.

The act, which stands for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, was brought back to life in May after first being introduced in 2001. It allows illegal immigrants, under certain circumstances, to remain in the United States.

During a visit to Ellis Island, Palin told reporters that historically, immigrants had to “literally and figuratively stand in line to become U.S. citizens.”

The former Alaska mayor added that the DREAM Act nullifies a system that has worked for generations of “immigrants who want to be here legally, working hard, producing and supplying revenue and resources for their families . . . right and legally.”

Palin also dined with Donald Trump at a pizzeria while she was in the Big Apple. Asked whether she would consider running on a presidential ticket with Trump, she responded, "That sounds exciting! Sounds unconventional!"
